Google Pomelli AI Marketing Tool Explained: Setup, Results, & Small Business Guide

As we discussed a few weeks ago in our explainer of how to use AI for content creation, creating marketing collateral is important whether you run a small business, or are simply trying to build a personal brand (such as for job-hunting). Google Labs recently introduced a brand-new AI tool, Pomelli, powered by Google DeepMind, that helps by turning existing brand attributes of your website into drafts of on‑brand social posts and campaign ideas for you. In other words, it’s like an external “brand brain” that you can use for free.

Google’s Pomelli, Explained: A simple guide for small business marketing, setup, and results

    TL;DR

Pomelli analyzes your website to learn your brand’s look and voice, suggests campaign ideas, and generates editable social posts you can publish anywhere. It is a public beta from Google Labs, currently rolling out to select English‑speaking countries. It’s easy and free to use and requires no prompt-engineering or technical skills.
We wanted to do a demo for you and compare it to our existing automated social-media generation workflows, as it seems like it could save time and clicks for many applications, but unfortunately we had a technical error with image generation on two different websites (which might boil down to our browser, website, or something else – after a little bit of troubleshooting, we decided to try again later.) We can say that it did a solid job for titles and content based on our website, such as:
Give Yourself the Gift of Time.  Reduce the stress and overwhelm of routine business tasks by automating them with AI, leading to a calmer, more productive work life.
Our troubleshooting steps (clearing cache, trying a different browser and a different computer) didn’t resolve it, which suggests this may be an early bug on Google’s side.  We’ll definitely update this post with more demo instructions if we get it working, but others have reported success, so don’t be scared off – try it and let it know how it works for you!

    How Pomelli works

You start by pasting your website URL into Pomelli. It will look at your website and “learn” your brand voice. This may take some time, but you don’t need to wait (or keep the browser tab open); go make a cup of coffee or do something else, and come back later.

Once it’s complete, you can review your “Business DNA,” pick a goal, and download the assets you want. Pomelli’s three steps are: 1) analyze your site for colors, fonts, tone, and images to build a brand profile, 2) propose campaign ideas tailored to your business, and 3) generate editable social posts and ads, which can include a call to action.

    How To Use Pomelli

    1. Get your inputs ready: your website URL, a short description of your audience, and one or two business goals for this month (for example, “book more estimates” or “sell the fall service package”).
    2. Create your brand profile: paste your site URL into Pomelli and let it build your “Business DNA.” Skim the pulled colors, fonts, and tone to make sure it matches how you speak to customers.
    3. Pick a campaign idea: choose one of the AI‑suggested angles or type a quick prompt like “promote leaf cleanup to homeowners in Riverton.”
    4. Generate assets: create 3 to 5 post variations. Edit any phrasing that feels off, then save in the correct format for platforms you use.
    5. Schedule and track: load the assets into a scheduler, or directly to a social media platform.

Let’s walk through a quick example:

Imagine you run “Pat’s Premium Pet Sitting.”

    1. Input: You paste your website patspremiumpets.com.
    2. Brand DNA: Pomelli instantly pulls your colors (a friendly blue and warm brown), your logo font, and analyzes your tone as “caring, professional, and trustworthy.”
    3. Goal: You set your goal as “Book more holiday pet sitting slots.”
    4. Campaign Idea: Pomelli suggests a campaign: “Don’t Let Your Pet Spend the Holidays Alone!”
    5. Generated Assets: It creates three social posts. One might be an image of a happy dog with the text: “Traveling for the holidays? We give your best friend a home-away-from-home. 🐾 Book your holiday slot before they’re gone! [Link]”

In 90 seconds, you’ve gone from an idea to a set of on-brand, editable posts.

Our Expert Take: Who Should Use Pomelli?

Pomelli is a promising tool, but its beta status and feature set make it a better fit for some users than others. Here’s our breakdown of the pros and cons, and who we think it’s really for.

    ProsCons
Free (for now, in beta)Beta Product (Can be buggy, as we experienced)
Zero technical skill requiredNo automation (Doesn’t post for you)
Good for brainstorming new anglesLimited control over final design
Instantly analyzes brand “DNA”Limited availability (English, few countries)

    Who is this really for?

    • For the Solopreneur (e.g., a plumber, baker, or consultant): This is a fantastic tool. It can save you hours of ‘staring at a blank page’ for your Instagram posts.
    • For the Small Business with a 1-Person Marketing Team: This is a great ‘first draft’ generator. It can give you 3-5 ideas to refine, saving you time on a-la-carte tools.
    • For a Marketing Agency or Power-User: This is likely too basic. The lack of automation and deep control makes it inefficient for managing multiple clients or advanced workflows.

    FAQ

    Is Pomelli free?

Pomelli is a Google Labs experiment in public beta. Google’s launch post and product page do not list pricing details at this time. You can try it while it is in beta.

    Where is Pomelli available?

At launch, Pomelli is available in English in the U.S., Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.

Does Pomelli post for me automatically?

Not at this time. Pomelli generates and lets you edit assets. Users can download those assets and publish them through the social tools they already use. To automate posting, you would need to build your own automated workflow, and would not be able to use Pomelli at this time, since it does not have an API.

For example, a more advanced, custom automation (like those we build) might link an RSS feed to a custom AI prompt, which then formats a post and sends it to a scheduling tool like Buffer, all without human intervention. Pomelli is not designed for that level of automation.

How is this different from Canva or Adobe Express?

Think of Pomelli as the idea generator and tools like Canva or Adobe Express as the polishing studio. Pomelli positions itself as a brand-aware content generator that starts from your website and proposes campaign ideas, then produces posts you can edit. You would still take those assets into your favorite editor (like Canva) to polish the final design.

    Conclusion

Whether it’s a good fit for your business or not, Pomelli demonstrates how AI is increasingly a powerful tool for smart business owners to save time on routine tasks.
